WAF – Web Application Firewall

Definition

what is a Web Application Firewall (WAF)?

A Web Application Firewall (WAF) is a security solution designed to protect web applications by filtering and monitoring traffic between a web application and the internet.

By inspecting incoming and outgoing traffic and implementing predefined security rules and advanced behavioral analysis a WAF identifies and blocks malicious requests before they can exploit vulnerabilities in the web application.

Unlike traditional firewalls that protect the network perimeter, WAFs focus specifically on securing web applications and shields them from common attacks such as cross-site scripting (XSS), SQL injection, and cross-site request forgery (CSRF).
