SSL/TLS - Transport Layer Security
Definition
What is TLS (Transport Layer Security) and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)?
TLS (Transport Layer Security) and its’ predecessor SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and are cryptographic protocols used to secure communication over the internet.
SSL/TLS ensure that data transmitted between a user’s browser and a server is encrypted, preventing eavesdropping, tampering, and data theft. SSL has largely been replaced by TLS, which provides stronger security features.
Websites use SSL/TLS certificates to establish trust and protect sensitive information such as login credentials, payment details, and personal data during transmission.
