Rootkit

Definition

What is a Rootkit?

A Rootkit is a type of malicious software designed to gain highly privileged access to a system while hiding its presence from the system owner and security software.

Rootkits often live at the Kernel level, allow attackers to maintain persistent privileged access to a compromised system and can be used to steal data, monitor activity, or install other forms of malware.
