MFA - Multi Factor Authentication

Definition

What is Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security mechanism that requires users to verify their identity using two or more independent factors before gaining access to a system, application, or data.

By combining different types of authentications, MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if one factor (such as a password) is compromised.

MFA usually uses at least two of the following factors: Something you know (a password or PIN), (Something you have a physical token or smartphone and Something you are (Biometric factors like fingerprints or iris scans).
