DoS - Denial of Service
Definition
What is a Denial of Service (DoS) or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack?
A Denial of Service (DoS) attack overwhelms a server, network, or system with an excessive amount of traffic or requests, causing it to become unavailable to legitimate users.
DoS attacks flood the target with more traffic than it can handle, leading to slowdowns, crashes, or outages.
Variants of this attack, such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), involve multiple sources of traffic to amplify the attack and make it harder for defenders to mitigate it.
